The problem of radicalisation is very high on the European agenda as increasing numbers of young European radicals return from Syria and use the internet to disseminate propaganda. To enable policy makers to design policies to address radicalisation effectively, Policy Cloud consortium will collect data from social media and other sources including the open-source Global Terrorism Database (GTD), the Onion City search engine which accesses data over the TOR dark web sites, and Twitter ( through Firehose). The data will be analysed using  sentiment analysis and opinion mining software.

About the Webinar

Policy Cloud will realise the European cloud for data-driven policy management, providing integrated reusable models and analytical tools which turn raw data into valuable and actionable knowledge.

The purpose of the webinar was to demonstrate ongoing work within one of four Policy Cloud pilot use cases, Policies against Radicalisation. Specifically, the presenters will discuss how  analytics can be used to:

  • segment radicalisation efforts demographically
  • visualise radicalisation trends
  • assign risk profiles to individual suspects, while respecting the privacy requirements established within the Policy Cloud  Ethics Framework.

With the aim to break the ice and foster engagement with the audience, we asked attendees a few questions.
